We sat down with Colette buyer and designer, Natasha Hayman, to talk spring trends, styling advice and her fashion muse.
We’ve officially hit spring, yay! What trends will be seeing for the new season?
Spring has brought so much this year when it comes to accessories trends. We are seeing so many beautiful tones of soft pink, light pastels and rose gold for the minimalist, and a mixture of bright bursts of colours and textures for the extrovert. Many of our upcoming ranges are focused on putting the spring favourite, turquoise, with orange, pink and navy.
Is there a number one accessory we should be refreshing in our wardrobes?
Spring’s number one accessory for me is the backpack – you can’t go through the season without one! And because one is never enough, when putting together a dinner or party outfit, I would go for an oversized clutch. And don’t be scared to mix your metals.
What do you look for when buying/designing?
As a buyer I travel to New York, Paris, London and LA to find the best street style in each city from day to night – this is probably the most exciting part of my job! As a designer, you need to be able to take unique styles and translate them for your customer. This is the secret to success, in my opinion!
Who’s your muse/style icon?
Joan Smalls I think always looks really boss when she hits the red carpet. Gigi’s off-duty look is my everyday inspo. And of course, Colette!
What’s your fav from the Colette range at the moment?
I am seriously crushing on rose gold at the moment, I can’t get enough of it! The best thing about rose gold jewellery is that you can mix it with silver and/or gold.
Spring racing is coming up, any suggestions of what we should wear?
I am personally a real sucker for a light-coloured lace dress or skirt – It’s simple, elegant and always a little bit sexy! With accessories, opt for a statement clutch and a bold necklace to make your mark on the field.
